Picks: Carrie Chau
I had the pleasure of viewing the work of Hong Kong’s famed illustrator Carrie Chau while i was in…well, Hong Kong. It wasn’t at an art opening or anything of that sort, but rather at a retail store selling her work in a variety of merchandise. The name of the place is Wun Ying Collection Gallery on Gough Street, Central Hong Kong, a subsidiary of Homeless, a retailer in lifestyle products and furniture. There were mugs, shirts, bags, what-have-yous and more. Since no photography is allowed, i did what most tourist did and took some pictures.
I gotta say, her work is pretty impressive, especially the use of her colours which i found really pleasing…muted and saturated in some cases, my kind of colours. The retail assistant told me that Carrie actually works upstairs above the store, who knew! So if you’re cruising by Hollywood Road in Central Hong Kong, be sure and stop by at Carrie’s place… bring money.
