Chee Way

Hee Chee Way completed a Diploma of Illustration on scholarship at the Malaysia Insitute of Art (1999) and studied Animation, Web Design and 3D Animation in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom (2004/2005). Hee was a Finalist for the Art & Earth Young Artist award in 2006 and since then has participated in group shows in Taiwan, Australia and Malaysia. Hee was also a founding member of the highly experimental Findars art group. His first solo show took place at the Findars art space in 2009.

Hee Chee Way is interested in photographic and digital art, and likes to insert them in his painting and illustration. He often manipulates printed images and combines them with hand-drawn elements to create collages of reality and fantasy. Hee’s work Madiez (2009) shows a cartoon-like scene with imaginary character content. Another work Imagination Driver (2009), combining video art, painting and sculptural installation, was a comment on the unavoidably car-centric lifestyle of people living in Kuala Lumpur. Imagination Driver sold from the group exhibition 18@8 held at Wei-Ling Gallery in 2009.
